ARTEMIS YOUTH RACING GAINING PACE IN FINALS

Artemis Youth Racing showed that they are a team that never gives up during the first day of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup finals in Bermuda. Improving with every race and currently sit in fourth place, and the young Swedish team have a shot at fighting for the title tomorrow.

The finals of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup started today with the eight competing teams starting side by side in three fleet races.

Artemis Youth Racing had a bad start to the first race but managed to recover from the back of the fleet to sixth position. The next start was better but the Swedish team still found themselves in the middle of the fleet on the first leg. An early gibe after mark one gave them a shot at gaining on France in the lead. And they managed to stay clear of the Swiss team who got a penalty as they tried to pass Artemis. The Swiss and Swedish boats continued to battle for positions for the remainder of the race, but the boat with the red and white flag took the lead at the last topmark as Artemis ended up in forth.

In the last race, it was clear that the Swedes had gained a lot of pace and they recovered fast, moving up to fourth on the second leg after yet another bad start. The British team took an early lead and controlled the race to the end but behind them the Swedes once again faced tough competition from the Swiss. Their battle gave the Kiwi team a chance to advance to second but Artemis Youth Racing managed to overtake the Swiss before the topmark and secure a top three result.

“It was an okay day from our side but we have some things we need to work on. We need to start better, we struggled with that today, but we have good speed and maneuvers so we head into the final day with confidence in the team. We are really looking forward to tomorrow”, said Julius Hallström of Artemis Youth Racing

Land Rover BAR Academy (GBR) had a great day on the water and top the scoreboard after three top results, but Artemis Youth Racing are of the teams that have a shot at challenging them for the title.

Racing will resume tomorrow with Races 4-6 of the Finals of Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
